you must use a cb viewer for import and export not a regluair viewer as (Singularity) sure that one will tell you that its a bad xml file,
becourse the xml files are taken with a cb viewer not with a approved viewer from second life, and ofcourse it can be a bad file becourse its export a long time ago, that viewer you cant use anymore its out of date, if its mesh clothing or a body what needed to be rigged then you can try to use 
Mesh Helper, search the forum for it, read the share page how to use it
