If the skin is baked, it is no good:
A normal skin you buy or use UUID'S from is made up of 2 to 3 textures already uploaded by someone else.
If you rip the UUID's from someone and it is a baked skin, all you have is the UUID's of a temp image.
To make it easy to understand, the baked skin is like a shortcut on your desktop, as long as the image it is linked to is still there it shows, but moment that user logs off or does something else to their body, it is like removing the file a shortcut is linked to.
The shortcut will tell you the file it linked to is no longer there, with SL the temp uuid's just show a grey skin.
The only possible way around this issue if ya willing to reupload the image, is to use a 3rd party program like slcasheviewer, but I'm not sure if it able to read the cache files from hydrastorm like it does the official firestorm viewer.
