Prim and sculpt extraction

This is the basic of the basics for a copybot viewer
Although with the convenience of mesh there are still many prims and sculpts that can still be used today.

Although they are primitive, no pun intended They are still useful in everyday building
So let me show you how to extract them If you used dark Storm in the past the method is still the same
However if you are new to the process, I will show you how to do it now..

Here we have a test sword this sword is made out of Prims
We are going to export the sword from Second Life and the XML format
First we're going to select the sword, then we're going to select hydrastorm, xML export. A menu will pop up
This menu will allow us to copy the Prim and save it to our desktop
When you are XML exporting something you have multiple options

The first option is to make a copy of it
When you press make a copy the viewer will copy the Prim in world
It will not only build the item but apply the textures from it and no cost.

The second option is to export the xML this will allow you to save a copy of the item on your hard drive and it can be transferred to other people via email or file save for later importing
It is worth noting that you cannot XML import mesh if you do try to XML import mash you will get a series of squares boxes and spheres and maybe even a donut shape but you will not get your mesh
On the positive side you will get all the textures that make up the mesh just not the message itself
That isn't to say that you can't XML export mesh to be used however that is another tutorial all together let's try to stay focused on the topic here

Speaking of textures the XML export has a feature that allows you to save the textures when you export it.
These textures will come out in the j2c format which need to be converted if you wish to use them in things like photoshop and gimp.

This feature is mostly here if you wish to XML export something from Second Life to open SIM
If you were to import a second life xML file into open SIM the item will load in however it will come in textureless and if it is a sculpted item there's a chance it won't come in at all
This is because the XML file draws textures from the second life server.

So if you were to import it in on a server that isn't second life it wouldn't have the textures to draw from/
To avoid that you would check the texture box and that would tell the XML file to draw from the texture folder instead of the second life server.

Let's talk about importing the xML file

To import our sword we're going to go to the top of our menu and select build import XML and then select the XML file we exported earlier
When you import the XML file the menu will show you all the items that were selected during the export.
It will ask you if you would like to import them normally or would you like to import them with the texture
If your on Second Life do not import the textures as the XML will draw it from the server during its import
If you check that box you will be charged 10 Lindens put texture file
You only need to check that box if you want a copy of the textures in your name or if you're on open SIM and you need the textures to draw from the folder and not the non-existent server.

Once your file Imports you can now enjoy it as your own item and that's it for XML exporting items
