Caspertech was offering free vendors for 3% of sales revenue on all sales. But, they were also colleclting huge amounts of user data, and big data is everything nowadays. So there's that aspect as well.
Maybe LL saw so many sales taking place in-world (Saturday Sales events/in-world purchase discounts) at the expense of the marketplace transaction fees LL collects from marketplace purchases that they decided to buy Caspertech, get a decade plus of user data, get that 3% vedor use tax, and maybe tack on their 10% marketplace tranaction fee as well. Maybe LL thought having Caspertech running loose in-world was costing them too much money.
