Quit your panicing, right now our viewers are still working, if you can'tuse this cache program you can still use darkstorm to extract your textures so the world isn't over.
We've been through this before when Server side baking hit and they said it would break all the viewers but look we came through.
The same will happen  this time.
The shadows are too strong to let this beat us ^_^
On a side not this is kinda why it's important to spread the word to your friends about Ap0110 hiring/looking for developers to help with the viewer. The sooner we find people the sooner we can get that new viewer made.

The former Firestorm (previous versions) and Darkstorm are unable to catch the textures from Mesh heads and mesh body, except if you are proprietary of the mesh head and body appliers . So indeed an upgrade is needed on top of re-opening the texture cache.

Who told you that? If you want to rip a texture off a mesh body treat it like a mesh object, click on yourself and export it as a dae the textures will be there. the same goes for bento items,
if your viewer cant see the bento avatar rezz it on the ground, and extract, ig there is a no  rezz script in the body, go to a no script sim and rezz the body.

Same, cache viewer's gone kaput after I updated Firestorm. Hopefully they'll be able to get the viewer up and running sooner rather than later

I never fully grasped why one would need a program like this.. 

Wouldn't it be quicker, to use a viewer, and get textures that way?

SL Cache viewer can be a bit tricky. I usually have to log and relog a few times while clearing to get everything to work properly.
